Tie Guan Yin is a premium variety of Chinese oolong tea associated with Anxi in the Fujian province. Named after the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (best known as Guan Yin), it has also been translated as Iron Goddess of Mercy after the old translation for Guan Yin's name.
This tea has a very flowery and fresh delicate aroma, the tea liquid is golden yellow with a strong baked aroma. Iron Goddess is baked until toasted to bring out a sweet and fruity flavour. The caffeine level of oolong teas is greater than Green Tea but less than Black Tea. Many people find this caffeine level to be a perfect energy boost in the morning.
Studies show that antioxidant compounds of polyphenols contained in this tea help the body fight harmful free radicals.
